Introduction to Flower Cardian
Why Flower Cardian?
Do you like summoning big monsters with 5 000 ATK and OTK with them? Are you looking for an archetype that plays the game so differentñy from the rest that you forget this is Yu-Gi-Oh? Is following the meta and getting destroyed by hand-traps something you want to get away from? Can you spare some N/R dust to try something new? If you answered ''Yes!'' to all of the questions, then this archetype is for you.
Overview
Flower Cardian is a deck from the Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V season used by Chojiro Tokumatsu. It is based on another card game, Hanafuda, and it actually mimics the plays you'd do if you were playing it instead of dueling in YGO. The design of each card is very original, since it shares the theme of the actual Hanafuda card but changing the drawing to include a Yu-Gi-Oh card on it:
By the way, the English name itself is a pun on the fact that Hanafuda means Flower, Card and Protection, so it is Flower+Card+Guardian=Flower Cardian.
Monsters
Main Deck (A)
Each Flower Cardian, with the exception of Loading... , can special summon itself from the hand if you met the requirements. This is not a once per turn effect so you'll be summoning cards constantly. In order to keep on summoning, the vast majority of Flower Cardian cards have the effect of If this card is Summoned: Draw 1 card, show it, then send it to the GY unless it is a "Flower Cardian" monster which I'll cover later on. Let's focus on each individual basic Flower Cardian monster:
Flower Cardian Pine
The only lvl 1 monster of the deck, and also the only one which requires your normal summon. It is both a massive asset to have in hand but also a giant brick, since in one hand it gives you advantage and a lvl enough for you to Special Summon any Flower Cardian; but in the other it is useless once you've already used your normal summon. One important note: try always saving your normal summon until you draw this card
.
I recommend always having 3 copies of it
Flower Cardian Cherry Blossom
The other card which you may normal summon to start your plays. This card is one of the most important Flower Cardians since it gives you a better Loading...
effect in a simmilar fashion to Loading...
: it lets you draw 1 card and either search any Flower Cardian or special Summon any of the ones that don't have restrictions. Unfortunately, it puts the restriction of not being able to Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn
but Flower Cardians. I'll mention this card again on the Loading...
section.
I recommend always having 3 copies of it
Flower Cardian Cherry Blossom with Curtain
By far one of the best cards to start your turn with. This card can be Special Summoned even if you control no ther cards, is the best target for Loading... , serves as a hand-trap and gives you the same advantage as any other Flower Cardian. If you decide to play the deck, you'll always want to draw this card out of the effect of any other Cardian, and drawing 3 consecutive ones feels like absolute victory. I recommend always having 3 copies of it
