Introduction to Watt
Introduction
Watts. Once an unbreakable stun strategy, then later a Thunder engine for strange and twisted Spright players, and now an OTK deck that only sometimes OTKs… Watts certainly have a storied history within Yu-Gi-Oh. The most recent Watt cards finally give the archetype a cohesive strategy as a Battle Phase-focused deck that pivots between damage output and stun/control. Loading... and Loading... provide legacy support that other archetypes would salivate over, and the most recent Watt monsters facilitate the summoning of multiple direct-attacking Synchro Monsters during the Battle Phase at a rapid pace. With tools to control the Battle Phase, rip cards from your opponent's hand, and field an easy Loading... , these zappy little critters finally have a strategy that doesn't rely on Loading... .
Landing an OTK is not always the plan here, so you'll need to be flexible with your approach on turn 2. The deck still has many opportunities to win, but it is very different from other going-second decks.
NOTE: There are a lot of Watt monsters. And most of them are bad. Only those with some sort of use in the basic Watt strategy will be discussed here.
Strategy
This is a going-second deck that focuses on the Battle Phase, with very few options for going first other than potentially hiding behind Loading... or Loading... .
The standard combo starts with Loading... (searchable by Loading... ) and either Loading... or Loading... .
- Normal Summon Cobra or Giraffe.
- Use Kingdom to Special Summon the other one from your deck.
- Attack directly with Giraffe and trigger its effect to prevent your opponent from activating cards or effects for the rest of the turn.
- Attack directly with Cobra and trigger its effect to search for Loading... .
- Immediately trigger Tuna's effect to Special Summon itself.
- Attack directly with Tuna, then trigger its effect to tribute itself and Giraffe and Special Summon Loading... .
- Attack directly with Kyuki, then trigger its effect to shuffle Kyuki (or Cobra) and Tuna into the deck and Special Summon Loading... .
- Attack directly with Chimera and trigger its effect to place a card from your opponent's hand on top of their deck.
This inflicts a total of 6000 damage, which is… not an OTK. That said, you can make it an OTK by using an ATK boost like Loading... or Loading... (via Loading... , although this is entirely RNG-dependent with your opening hand.
Alternatively you can aim to shut down your opponent's next turn and then finish them off on yours. Depending on the situation, you could use Loading... or Loading... (if you didn't use Kingdom's effect) to wipe your opponent's board after Giraffe has prevented any effects from activating. Loading... 's effect allows you to Special Summon Loading... during Main Phase 2 by tributing any Thunder monster, Loading... 's effect essentially skips your opponent's draw, and Kingdom stops your opponent from using on-summon Trigger Effects in the Extra Monster Zones.
