Notes & Combos

After about 30 games I honestly still can't tell whether this deck is good or just an abomination.

It was fun though.

Basically this is Shining Sarc with a Melodious Engine to help build a board going 1st and help give a bit more gas for going 2nd aswell.

This deck runs the normal Shining Sarc stuff except for the Dark Magician and Dragoon line because the deck just doesn't have space and it just didn't feel that good. So the main Sarc combo is still just normal summon Gadget Trio for Sarc for Ties That Bind to end on the Silent Swordsman and Magician.

Melodious can help this by either of 2 ways:

  1. Ostinato: this makes a full combo, ending on 2-mat Apollousa, I:P and Vortex Dragon. This doesn't use the normal Summon, so you can just Normal Gadget Trio afterwards and do the standard line.
  2. Refrain: Since she wants to be normal summoned we have to alternate our combo a little. But with the help of Beyond the Pendulum we can grab Duelist Extraordinaire to Pend summon our Gadget Trio during the combo. So with Refrain we usually end on 2-mat Apollo, Silhouhatte Rabbit, Extraordinaire for Battle protection and whatever else we have to Pendulum (usually the standard Gadget Trio combo).

Note that Combo 2 only works beacause Extraordinaire doesn't LIGHT lock us like Couplet.

Feel free to check out my Replays for a short Runthrough of the combos.

The Deck is really cramped for space, there are a bunch of options though. I run Monkeyboard since this deck has a massive lack of extenders to play through handtraps. And since we run the Duelist Extraordinaire anyway, Monkeyboard just allows us to set up Pend Scales 1 - 8 by itself. I'm still not sure whether this is the best option for these two slots though. And Since Melodious requires the board to be empty, Kashtira is not an option unfortunately. To Substitute I have tried Bystials (not too good in the current meta), Yubel Fieldspell with Spirit and normal Yubel + Phantom (makes the deck go to 45 and adds 2 bricks, is surprisingly good though) and Dark Magician with Fusion Spell + Dragoon (comes up too rarely and is just another brick Unless Sarc is up).

You are welcome to try any type of extender though, I'm sure there has to be something better than Monkeyboard, I just haven't found it yet.

All in all the grind was alright, DC Stage 1 is never too tough though. For going 1st this deck is really good, but it has weaknesses going 2nd (like most other decks). Running 11 Handtraps helps significantly.

  1. vs 2240: shows the Refrain line (Refrain would add Couplet and Beyond would add Extraordinaire, which we both already had) just Pend Trio if you have it
  2. vs Stein-Boy: Full Ostinato + Trio Combo
  3. vs Asian Name: bonus Replay showing the bit of resiliency this deck has naturally
