Notes & Combos

All Roads Lead To Ginza Randoms

Decided to play Marincess for this Duelist Cup... and then I got the worst hands ever. Most of my games were decided either by me going full combo and having answers to all my opponent's plays, or losing the coin toss and drawing only engine.

Notes are below, but tl;dr is you need more mental fortitude than I do to play this deck right now.

  • I play 14 names because I fear God. Most people will tell you to run 13, but my experience with this format in TCG reminded me that having more gas is sometimes better than opening all non-engine that does nothing.
  • Veiler saved me way too many times to cut, even at 2. I saw it enough anyway, and it worked when I needed it.
  • Contact "C" is an FTK against Purrely. You give it to them when the first Main Deck name hits the board, and you win the game against 95% of your matchups. Run Barricadeborg Blocker, kids. Against Kash... pray you draw something to deal with Unicorn and Fenrir afterwards, because I certainly never did.
  • Nibiru and Raigeki honestly feel interchangeable, but you can probably play a 2:1 ratio if you take out the Veilers. Both fell off really hard for me since I didn't draw them when they mattered. (and also played 15 matches against Lab/Mikanko in a row)
  • Thrust was a mixed card for me. Sometimes, it won me the game singlehandedly, and other times, what I took didn't matter... because my matchup was either Mikanko or Labrynth. Good card, just got unlucky with it.
  • Talents was really good for me because people keep using Ash on Blue Tang. (Don't do this. Just don't.) You always rip cards unless your hand is legitimately terrible, or you just want to cover for the Kaiju in your future.
  • Herald of the Abyss probably sees better days in your hands than mine. The most mileage I got out of it was a Fenrir every 15th game, and exactly one Epurrely Beauty - otherwise never saw it.
  • You have to run two Zealantis. Unicorn just kept ripping this card out all day, maybe the odd Coral Triangle if they were daring, but you absolutely need a way to break boards with mostly engine if you can.
  • Splash Mage facilitates Zealantis co-links on less tense gamestates. Might be win-more, but it came up enough that you should consider it.

Some considerations for people who have better luck than me: Run Evenly. Just run Evenly. Don't look back.
