Notes & Combos

Not as popular as Tear and Fire decks in this event but I think it's just as good as them. From a game mechanics standpoint, the way Spright works is actually the most unaffected by the Limit 1 rule.

I enjoyed the event, but because of the lack of handtraps available, the games were even more heavily decided based on who goes first compared to ladder. Every deck can easily play through 1 handtrap, so you're just at such a massive advantage going first. Over a 40+ game sample, I won going first 85% of the time, but only won going second 52% of the time, and I'm almost running as much going second outs as possible.

In terms of the deck:

  • The Live Twin cards are really useful. They offer 1-card starters, extenders, and contribute to your endboard.
  • The Runick cards are far less useful because of the Limit 1 restriction. You'll basically never get to resolve Fountain twice because there are just too few Runick spells, but you still play them because if you draw one, it's an extender, and if you draw 2, you get some free value on top of an extender. Without these cards there just isn't enough consistency.
  • Follow up is definitely a bit weak. You hope that your opponent can't crack your board, and most of the time they can't, but I've had a few occassions where I lost to Tear going first because they just have so many plays.
  • Never summoned Apollousa & Zeus. Most of the time I I:P into S:P. Not sure if there's something else worth adding.
  • Knightmare Pheonix and Cerberus because 1) you can summon them after using Evil Twin effects and 2) you need removal when you don't have a Battle Phase.
