Notes & Combos

Was looking for a funny deck to play in limit 1 and decided to play nouvelles. Despite being notoriously bad on ladder, the deck performed suprisingly well, netting all gem rewards in a few hours and going 11-2 in the process.

I settled on nouvelles because as weaker decks go, the deck actually has a bunch of quirks that just kind of lend themselves really well to this event. Namely:

  1. Ritual has access to a bunch of generic searchers. Impcantation, prep and pre-prep, etc, combined with the in-archetype spell cards means you have a high consistency even with the limits.
  2. The deck has insane recycling potential with cards like glasya, the field spell, and dyna mondo. The abilty to recycle rituals, searchers, and ED monsters means you have repeatable access to important cards/disruption in a way many other decks don't in limit 1.
  3. Events have no matchmaking and typically attract less experienced players who often won't read your cards. Great for an archetype full of monsters who tribute your whole board when you don't read they do!

Dogmatika was a solid addition. Kalamity, matrix, and nadir all provide ED sends, passively searching your nouvelles lines or providing disruption while you get to relic. White relic can also just be a big guy for beating over DEF positions or other monsters you can't tribute. Her second effect came in handy sometimes, ED sniping is strong in limit 1.

For non-engine I went with cards like book, e-con, and chalice for the versatility. Use them as intended, or to proc nouvelles effects. You can swap these out for generic HTs/board breakers, but that's not as fun!

You can probably change some things around, I didn't use the imp ritual spell, cross-sheep, dharc, or mereo, and the dogmatika engine can probably be optimized.

Overall this deck was fun, but has some weaknesses. Managing your shuffle-backs can be difficult, smart opponents who know how to chain block and manage quick effects can really hurt you, and at the end of the day, you are still a ritual deck and will sometimes just draw 4 blues and lose.
