Notes & Combos
Tenpai is probably the best deck for climbing rn. It's extremly strong and you don't care about losing the cointoss unless it's a mirror match. Also, you either win or lose pretty fast. That is why I built this deck.
Engine
I think everyone agrees on 3 Paidra, 3 Chundra, 2 Summoning and 3 Kaimen. It would be stupid to play less of them, unless you don't have the cards. Every single of those cards is a 1 card OTK by itself and additional Tenpai engine cards are extenders. The only choices that are debatable would be:
- 2 Genroku: I like to play 2 of them, because you always need 1 Genroku in the deck for Sangen Summoning/Kaimen lines. 2 Genroku also means more consistency, because it's a starter.
- 2 Fadra: I like 2, the second one comes up pretty often in the mirror where you might have to go 1st. But playing 1 Fadra is also completely reasonable.
- Dora Dora: another starter for more consistency. But I admit that this slot could be another handtrap/breaker.
Non-Engine
I think everyone agrees on 3 Maxx C, 3 Ash and 3 Imperm. These are too good to not include them in your deck. Magnamhut should be also an auto-include, this card is so broken in Tenpai.
Other than that, I chose my non-engine depending on the cards that I had. You could play more Veiler/Ogre, but I have only 2 of them and had to invest all my UR to craft the non-egine for this deck.
-
Veiler is probably the strongest handtrap after Maxx C, Ash, Imperm
-
Ogre is pretty nice in the current meta against Tenpai, Yubel, Voiceless, Centurion and King's Sarc
-
Droll covers some matchups this deck might struggle against: heavy combo decks that may play through 2+ other handtraps. Droll prevents RB Protos locking you and the Gimmick Puppet FTK. Droll and Veiler are Spellcaster, allowing you to beat Secret Village
-
Droplet is probably the strongest boardbreaker if you have only 1 breaker and for this reason a staple in Tenpai
-
Called by is a personal tech choice. It's the best card against Seal in the mirror, stops opponents non-engine (Ash on Kaimen) and it works also against Promethian Princess, Phantom of Yubel, Super Factorial and Ishizu Shufflers
-
Heavy Storm > Lightning Storm. Piles try to beat Maxx C with Secret Village locks. But Normal Summon Droll/Veiler + Heavy/Feather Duster beats them. Lightning Storm doesn't work with face-up monsters on the board, which is why I prefer Heavy Storm.
Might try other non-engine like Shifter once I have more URs.
