Notes & Combos
Please see 2.9k-word writeup from Season 34 that should answer any questions you may have about playstyle, concept, engine choices, etc.
N.B.: I'VE ADDED IB BUT NEVER GOT TO SUMMON HER. I SIMPLY TOOK OUT THE 2ND COPY OF CRUSADIA MAGIUS, WHICH HARDLY MATTERED, BECAUSE THAT WAS THE SLOT EARMARKED FOR HER. Playing with essentially a 14-card Extra Deck didn't really hurt me during this climb, so I just left her in there.
Changes from S36 list:
- -1 Crusadia Draco
- -2 Crow
- -1 World Key
- -1 One for One
- -1 WL Scars
- -1 WL Awakens
- -1 Mekk Red Moon
- -1 Mekk Yellow Star
xxxxxxxxxxxx
- +3 Veiler
- +1 Belle
- +1 Nib
- +3 Fuwalos
- +1 Talents
One of my biggest issues with the original "World Legacy's Finality" construction was the lack of non-engine slots. It can't really be helped as Mekk-Crusadia remains a 2c combo deck (Galatea-i wen?), but I've finally gotten around to trimming the fat and making a bit more room; good timing with Fuwalos' arrival as well.
I've cut 4 non-core engine cards: Scars, Awakens, World Key, and One for One. World Key was ultimately a backup starter to help improve consistency given the inflated card count, while Scars and Awakens didn't really boost it beyond being WL names that Morning Star could discard.
- The fact is that WL Guardragon is another non-core engine card that should be cut if we're serious, but I moved to 60 partly to accommodate it even though it's blatantly suboptimal, so I'm keeping it. Art > functionality!
Red Moon and Yellow Star are technically core engine cards since they are combo pieces, but they aren't starters like Purple/Girsu/Blue and are nowhere near as integral as Indigo to any wincon, so I chose to cut them for non-engine. On balance, given that this is a going-1st list after all, it's not THAT bad to cut non-essential Mekk names...I think.
The 1 Crusadia Draco didn't really have to be cut, but I went ahead with it after weighing pros and cons. Draco remains the worst engine normal summon; its role is to be fetched by Magius to help plus through the Crusadia line. It's only good in hand if drawn alongside another Crusadia. That said, it's still better than NS a handtrap since you at least get to add another Crusadia to hand, and link materials are precious. Is this function better value than a Fuwalos/Belle/Droll/Nib? I'm not so sure.
The copium is that since Fuwalos helps with consistency a la Maxx C, I'd be alright sacrificing this 1 normal summon even though the deck SORELY lacks normal summons. I guess it worked for me this time, but we'll see if I add another Crusadia in the future. Consistency isn't great, but it wasn't good before anyway lol. FYI I did manage to get a 7 winstreak up to Master 1 (see decklist video for uhhh video proof of this I guess lol)!
I hope this thoroughly explains the changes from the S34-36 build.
As for Ib: My preliminary assessment is that it isn't really possible to build her into any reliable turn 1 play. I've even experimented with NS Draconnet (summoning Crowned by the World Chalice)...even when I got Ib out on turn 1, I didn't really have a way to bridge into my main setup. Probably need to wait for new support or at least Guardragon unbans for more options here. I'm still keeping her since I have the slot and Girsu can summon her on turn 2 and beyond, but I never actually managed it on the ladder this month. It'll happen at some point, I'm sure.
Very open to suggestions on Ib usage in a pure WL (but non-WC) deck like this one! I have no combo brain, so I wouldn't be surprised if I've overlooked something.
Replays
Apologies, but I don't really have time to record/edit videos these days, so I'll keep sending you back to the epic S34 video if you're looking for replays. Plays are exactly the same as before, anyway. I might make a new video if playstyle or combo lines ever change substantially. Galatea-i waiting room...
S34 special commemorative video with pretty much the same list
- All replays in the 5W streak from M5 to M4
- Live gameplay for the first successful promotion game at each rank
