Notes & Combos

I tried Tenpai for the first time, post-banlist, you can't be too wasteful or reckless with this deck since Chundra and Sangen Summoning is limited to 1. It is still a very strong deck, but there are chokepoints that my opponent can exploit that ended me multiple times.

MVPs:

  1. Tenpai Chundra: It is still a reliable extender but now since you only have one copy, Icy Dragon's Prison/D.D crow/MirrorJade/Kashtira Fenrir's effect will cripple you. You can still synchro with Genroku's Hand effect but you will lack that 1600 atk that might have secured the victory.

  2. 18 Handtraps: There is no wrong answer here; pick whatever you wish. Although, I would recommend keeping it atleast a 40 card deck. My optimal hand would be 1 handtrap, 1 starter, 1 negate, and 1 boardbreak.

  3. Sangen Kaimen: It has a flexible use: If you want to go to a Zealantis line you can use it in the Main Phase to get a third monster (Either Genroku or Chundra) or just to the battle phase to summon a Paidra (sets Sangen Summoning for atk boost), Genroku (extra tuner/extention), Chundra (extention), Fadra (revive).

  4. Board Breakers: 1 Nibiru, 3 Droplets, and 3 Backrow hate. Spells and Traps are annoying on top of the Omni-negate Monsters, so I would use these cards with Droplet to make my Tenpai monsters be able to breakthrough without interruption.

FAQ:

  1. No Purulia?
  • A bit too excessive for my taste. I don't want my starting to be purely hand traps. A lot of decks do summon from the hand so its something to consider, especially if Maxx C would be removed from the game.
  1. Why the double Bident and Transcendent Dragon?
  • Kashtira Unicorn. Tearlaments, Centurion, and Pure Kashtira decks have those that would take out my key pieces.
  1. Your worst match-ups?
  • Yubel (Full combo) and Labrynth (Simultaneous Equation Cannons variant)
  1. Is the Zealantis combo worth it?
  • Sometimes (Dimension Barrier lock/Tenpai Mirror Match situation), since it does require a Zealantis and 1 FIRE monster on the Field which requires specific line with restrictions (Genroku's 2nd effect) that Snake-eyes does better. This is somewhat alleviated if the opponent has FIRE monster for Hiita to grab. This is your Turn 3 or 4 comeback combo if you have Fadra in hand/graveyard.

Replays

Replays: 909-131-062 I currently have replays against: Voiceless Voice, Kashtira, Tearlaments, Centurion, Labrynth, Tenpai.

Its pretty much a hand trap mini-game; trying to sequence hand traps to deal the most disruption. After that, I solitaire to try to deal as much damage.
