Notes & Combos

Went from M5 -> M3 -> M5 -> M1 in this season's climb. Got to M1 on June 27th.

Spun my wheels in M5 for a bit, however, once I got to M4, I cleared it in 7 games.. just to lose 6 games in a row to derank back to M5. (1-5 for flips and the only flip I won, I opened all handtraps vs Stun) This time around, it only took 9 games to get out of M5... but then I spun my wheels again in M4 for over 30 games.. Once I got out though, I basically had a clean run to M1. (18 games from M3 -> M1)

During the climb, I did drop Brigandine for a third Holeutea and after I made it to Master 3 the second time, I dropped both Shifter for an extra Nib and an even 40 in the deck. I've said it before, but Shifter has always been rough. Traptrix is supposedly a Shifter deck, and while it can still steal games, with what I have and having to deal with Maxx C being chained to it if you use it while going first.. (ignoring topdecking it after the first turn), it felt like it didn't benefit me enough most of the time.

As for the meta, it's still pretty blah feeling. Fire decks are still at the top of the meta and Purrely is making a comeback as well. If it's not one of those, it's either stun or being handtrapped out of getting anywhere.

I added a second Nib over the 2 Shifter since I still wanted a power handtrap that would make me at least feel alright. Sure, it'll be bad against stun decks or if your opponent gets out S:P/Apo/a negate like Arvata by their 5th summon, however, that won't always be the case. It also feels a bit better since you don't run into Divine Temple as often. It also doesn't destroy, so Fire King monsters won't activate.

Belle overall felt pretty good. It saved me some games during my last push and probably isn't something someone would really play around. Sure, she can be useless/dead, but what cards won't be sometimes.

If Purrely is sticking around again, I might suggest adding in Goddess back to the ED. Cutting Aussa/Cularia depending on your preference would probably be the best. Granted.. with S:P being around.. you'll need to have something like Strike set to (or 2 cards that stop her) keep them from just banishing Bagooska now..

If Overroot wasn't a once per turn, I would probably want to run a second. I just didn't want to risk opening 2 and being punished by having a dead card on my opponent's turn.

I'd say that hopefully next season things are better.. but they won't be lol It'll be as rough as it has been probably forevermore.

  1. Going first against Floo (they did misplay.. but I also got hit by double Evenly) [Majestic - Master 2]
  2. Going first against Fire King/Snake-Eye [Duelist - Master 2]
  3. Going first against Fire King (Skill Drain is cool) [tandem - Master 4]

I probably should have saved the Paleo game I went against.. but I don't believe I had any great back and forth games.
