Notes & Combos
Went 14-6 my last 20 duels, with a highest streak of 8 games between Master 3 to Master 2. Most of those were me teetering on one win away from Master 1 and choking at the least second. This is a floodgate trap heavy build. 22 traps, 6 spells, and and 12 monsters.
Tech Choices:
- Trap heavy v.s Ikea
- I don't like the Ikea build. It plays too much like a combo deck without the benefit of being a combo deck. Sure, Ikea Lab doesn't hard lose to LS or Harpie's or Evenly, but the cards used here also don't either. So, I only run the 1 Stovie mainly for Chaos Angel and another way to get to engine.
- Lord
- This card is low-key busted and it's crazy more trap decks don't use it. It safeguards you from 2/3 problems I mentioned above, it's a 3k body on summon, AND it searches any spell or trap. And with the next tech choice, you get to keep it.
- Iron Wall
- This card is insanely busted right now. It destroys Kash and hits any deck that needs to banish something to get plays off, you just gotta protect it as best you can. Combined with Lord, you can set this card directly off Lord effect or ANY other floodgate and they will stay on field. Meaning Lord + Iron Wall becomes a searchable floodgate. And as an added benefit, it protects you from Evenly.
- Going second cards
- This mostly pertains to Sphere Mode & Solemn Strike, but Skill Drain and Gozen as well. Who says trap decks can't go second? Set 5 pass works well if you play these cards. Sphere mode is just hilarious; you see your opponent put in all this work just for their board to be tributed for 3. Strike will protect your traps from being negated as well as get rid of a problem card, so you can break boards with cards like Torrential. Skill Drain will also stop your opponent from negating your traps, and it barely does anything to Lab. Gozen itself will rip apart a Kash board and prevent them from making another. And remember, you can set these floodgates off Lord if you have Iron Wall.
- 6 Pots
- The pots themselves conflict with some of your deck, but they're necessary. It maximizes your chances of seeing your power cards and we don't even need to use the ED or special summon first turn anyway. Drawing into Sphere Mode is hilarious when going second, or into a floodgate or Lord going first. Only thing that sucks is topdecking an Extrav or Prosperity after using Iron Wall, but we got Stovie as a one-off for discards.
- No handtraps
- No Maxx C, no Ash Blossom. Deck doesn't need it. Enough said.
