Notes & Combos
I reached M1 in the nick of time with this deck. Ancient Gear has always been one of my favourite archetypes in Yu-Gi-Oh as I dig any form of robot/mecha aesthetic. Being able to climb with the top with them as soon as the support dropped has been very rewarding and fun but also stressful! I'm sure many other rogue duelists can relate. Generally fortress will often carry you to victory, going first doesn't come up enough to warrant using extra deck space for it, and maxx c is a must.
I have significantly altered the deck since my M5 submission. I have dropped some breakers in exchange for a lineup of handtraps and have also bumped up the deck to 50 in doing so. I was struggling to climb with my M5 build and found that leaning too hard into either handtraps or breakers made the deck feel worse. So I tried a mix of both, bumped up to 50 (which theoretically would reduce me drawing the 1 of bricks) and immediately began seeing results. I'm not saying those AG builds favouring one over the other aren't optimal, they just didn't work for me personally.
I also included a megaton package alongside the duel package for easier otks through empty boards and banish floodgates. The extra brick in OG golem felt negligible with my increased deck size. Both packages have come up multiple times for me and I feel comfortable keeping them around. Ballista and Chaos have been bumped up to 2 copies as well due to facing kashtira (either the deck or engine) a lot.
With Tenpai leaked to be in the next pack I expect AG to fall off as the blind second deck of choice very quickly. However I am still glad the deck got to have its spotlight as one of the best otk decks in Master Duel even if it was brief.
