Notes & Combos

First time in a few months I decided to go for M1 again - this time with Vanquish Soul, just to mix things up with a new deck for me.

Actually I started my climb with Stun lists from MDM and while the deck is somewhat fun initially, that fun factor dies quickly. Stun is not something to be played for longer times. Also, Stun decks are generally really **** and complaining about floodgates in those decks is a skill issue.

In Master 3, I decided to play another deck in VS, as the climb with Stun became a slog. Going 2nd with Stun is just very unfun.

I did win 70% of my games, but VS is very likely not a 70% win rate deck - I did start with a 6-win streak after all. The deck is entertaining, but it took me some time to get a feel for the deck. When I first played it in the current DC, I lost a comically large amount of games initially.

I am not reinventing the wheel here, but let me explain some choices and ideas that went into deckbuilding:

  • I looked at several different VS lists on MDM and on YGOPRODECK while making mine and I decided to settle for the larger VS engine (3 over 2 Borger, 2 over 1 Mad Love etc.). I hate not playing the game, so I usually prefer larger engines
  • I started off with Imperm and then Evenly as a 3-of tech card (like other VS lists), but I did not like either of them.
  • for draw cards, I decided not to run Prosp, because I value the +1 from Desires/Extrav more in a deck that wants to see a combination of cards in hand
  • I decided that I wanted some cards that give more "oomph", especially if drawn off of Maxx "C", so I included 1 TTT and 1 Duster. Both were great
  • the ED takes inspiration from a VS list from the MD World Championship from Creed (I think) with the Baronne and the BLS link. To be honest, if I should play VS again, I should put more thought into the ED. I never used Bagooska or Tornado, I used Baronne once in the very last duel and, frankly, it was great there. However, there was one duel where Bagooska would have been the winning play (in attack mode to then make Zeus).
  • the rest of the ED was great. Zeus, TY-PHON, S:P and obviously Rock were amazing. Dempsey came up sometimes, too. The Zoos could be replaced for more versatility, especially vs something like Yubel or vs Towers, but I still liked them.

In case someone is following me around: Sry, I am still not motivated enough to finally really tackle the no-UR Master 1 challenge, but I am more motivated to play MD again. Videos might be coming soon.
