Notes & Combos

This list finally made it to Master 5 on the second to last day of the season.

The idea of this deck is literally Mermaid Turbo, as I wanted to see how well it stacks up againts todays meta. I have to say, it was NOT a good showing for this deck. From D5 to D2 I went on a 14 win-streak and I thought this was the best deck ever. After I hit D1 tho i went on a 18 loss-streak (not a joke, I have screenshots) and fell all the way back to D5. And the grind back up was terrible.

Basically this deck hyper-focuses on Mermaid and hte best way to get to it, Formud Skipper. You can call any Knightmare with it and link directly into Mermaid, grabbing ExCeed or Gatchiri in the proccess. You then go through the Orcust into Phantom Knight combo with 2 extra Materials, ending on Bardiche and Gallatea (Co-Linked), Verte Anaconda and Dragoon with Crescendo and two Fog-Blades set.

In the deck I then stuffed as many ways to get to Skipper as possible (Cynet Mining and One for One) and two generic special summon engines to try and extend through handtraps or interrupts going 2nd (Kashtira and Danger!). Danger! Nessie! also helps massively to keep cards in hand, as this deck discards a ton (Cynet Mining, Mermaid or Dragoon) and you often end up not having enough cards in hand for follow up or Dragoon negate.

A few extra pieces of information about this deck:

  • I run 45 cards because we run so many bricks, we absolutely don't want to see them.
  • Shade Brig makes Silent Boots a 1-card Mermaid, Gatchiri makes Skipper a 1-card Mermaid after getting negated (happens more often than you might think)
  • Barricadeborg Blocker allows us to unbrick Orcust Knightmare out of our hand
  • I never once summoned Bagooska, I just don't know what to replace him with
  • For follow up you often summon Dingirsu over Gallatea in the Bardiche Zone for a pop and a non-targetting send, then you can follow up by trying to get to Accescode

All in all this deck is incredibly underwhelming and I can see why Mermaid was unbanned. The worst thing is this deck doesn't even have a good Tenpai Matchup and that deck is EVERYWHERE right now. 4 negates (3 of which sit in the backrow) just doesn't cut it most of the time, and we aren't that resilient against handtraps.

I probably wouldn't recommend this deck for climbing, but it is fun to play.

I have only one Replay, which shows the full combo:

Vs xxyyzz on Tenpai

I changed the cards in this deck so often, that I didn't really keep any interesting replays. This deck is very streamlined for this combo though, so it should be fine.
