Brief Rundown

This is my take on Unchained and it got me to Master rank, my first time ever, so it's especially cool that I can post this deck list.

I prefer to not run Tour Guide, even though I used to and it is still a great one card combo in Unchained. It's just not as flexible as using the Opening of the Spirt Gates package that I included. Here are the reaasons why I prefer it:

  1. People tend to not interrupt it really. I don't know why, because it is an engine that can get you an Unchained Trap or an Unchained monster, whichever you need.
  2. It plays better into Maxx C than Tour Guide.
  3. It compliments the free-form combo nature of Unchained, which I value a lot more than a linear one card combo that is Tour Guide, one of the biggest handtrap magnets in the game.

If nothing else, it guarentees you can get into an Unchained Soul of Anguish when going second, to then usually get Unchained Abomination. Unchained is already good at breaking boards and Opening of the Spirit Gates or Dark Beckoning Beast just compliments that.

A final thing to mention is that it is objectively better to run 3 Opening of the Spirit Gates and 1 each of Dark Beckoning Beast and Chaos Summoning Beast, instead of running 3 Dark Beckoning Beast and 1 only of Opening of the Spirit Gates (which I see people do), since Opening can be set to your spell/trap zones for your Unchained cards to pop if need be. Activating Opening does not actually commit you to the Dark Beckoning Beast normal summon yet, which is nice if it gets Ashed and you have other normal summons you'd like to use, a situation I find my self in often enough.

Other Cards I Would Use

I don't put money into the game, so I don't have a ton of CP lying around to get generally strong staples (one reason I only have 2 Maxx C in the deck). If I had the dust, I'd craft some copies of:

  • Triple Tactics Thrust (works great with the whole spell/trap lineup of the deck)
  • More Nibirus (just great against a lot of commonly played decks right now)
  • Knightmare Gryphon (it's great for the lock combo with Muckraker, but since I can't afford it I also don't play Muckraker. I also don't prefer using floodgates at all really)
  • Evenly Matched (Great board breaker that I try on and off consistently, but I find Triple Tactics Talent is just a better card, so I use that)
