Notes & Combos
DBB, Spirit Gates, and TGU are 1 card combos. Both make the full board, but TGU can play through Nib.
The idea is that, in a 40 card deck, running 8 cards is the number which maximises the chance for opening exactly 1 of a certain a card, not 0, 2, 3, 5. In 60 cards, 9 works basically the same.
Now, additionally, Unchained has 2 major issues, one of which I think is somewhat fixed by playing 60, and the other is just up to you.
- The deck runs bricks, and you can draw awful hands.
- Maxx C... you cannot play into it.
For the first issue, running 60 cards decreases your chance to see any one specific card, and as a result you are less likely to draw your bricks. Cool!
For the second, that's unfortunate. In 40 cards, if you run 9 cards, like I do, to out Maxx C, your chance is 74% to draw a Maxx C out (3 Droll, 3 Ash, 2 Called By, 1 Crossout). In 60 cards, you have a 57% chance to draw an out. To me, this trade-off is worth it, but I can understand preferring to play just a really basic 40-45 card list.
Another neat thing is that all your bricks in the deck and the way the deck is structured means that whenever you draw one of those bad cards, you can use Small World to trade it in for something actually meaningful. Because Radian is a Fiend, you also get to run him as a target for your small world going second, especially for Purrely and similar decks. You also have Thrust, and Thrust can be used going 2nd effectively because you can run the 1 of Thrust & Evenly, and maybe even search Small World to out a towers and go for game.
Overall, the main deck has felt really good in this manner. I got a 14 win streak on through Diamond (and then proceeded to lose a game to Maxx C -> Ash -> Called By going 2nd where I would've otherwise won).
The extra is... I mean, I got quirked up with it. You can honestly run a lot of extra decks for this. You can even consider Chaos Angel because DBB + AUS = 10.
If you want to play like a very normal version of this deck, I would probably recommend cutting Djinn, adding back the 2nd Blue Dog, and maybe a 2nd S:P for something, maybe consider the rank 3 D/D/D. You can try cutting the Super Producer, although your endboard ceiling goes down for DBB, obviously. Play around with it, go wild.
