Notes & Combos
Hi everyone! Today, I’m sharing what I believe is the best way to play Swordsoul. The core of this deck is the Swordsoul package combined with a reduced Tenyi engine, but what really makes it stand out is the Superheavy Samurai engine. Let me explain: Swordsoul on its own is a straightforward deck with solid plays, especially if you know how to leverage the Tenyi cards well. In my opinion, the standard version has fallen behind with recent meta shifts. Even using Protos to declare "Dark" or "Fire" is often a gamble, and, at that point, you’re mostly relying on Protos for control. Other decks, like Ritual Beast, can handle that role more effectively.
By incorporating the Superheavy Samurai engine, you open up a range of possibilities and follow-up plays that can turn the tide. It’s amazing to see the options unfold, adding layers of strategy that you wouldn’t even expect until they happen. Plus, it makes Protos even stronger, as you can support him with negates or interruptions, making him much harder to remove.
General Strategy If you have only Swordsoul cards in hand: Summon Grandmaster with Mo Ye and draw a card to check if you pull a useful strategy. If you do, go for Protos; if not, proceed with Sinister and hope both are enough to sustain you through your opponent’s turn.
If you have both a Tenyi and Swordsoul in hand: You can aim for Protos by declaring "Fire." For this, you’ll need an extra Wyrm on the field. If you already have Emergence or Protos in hand, prioritize searching for Strategist; otherwise, prioritize Protos. Once the combo is complete, and you have either a Wyrm and Grandmaster or a Baron, Wyrm, and Grandmaster, you can link Grandmaster and the Wyrm to summon Shaman. Discard a card if you have an extra one to bring back Grandmaster (use Adhara’s effect before this to ensure you have the card). Then, summon Protos and declare "Fire."
If you draw Superheavy Samurai cards: There are multiple options here, and I’ll leave some for you to explore. Generally, your goal is to make a Level 5 Synchro using the Yang Zing package. Unlike previous versions, you won’t be going for the trap but rather using this to extend your plays and support Protos with multiple ways to declare "Fire." The Pendulum summon also enhances your plays since it allows you to save your Normal Summon for later. This versatility really shines in the replays.
Useful Tips Maxx "C" is your biggest enemy. However, if you’re sure of what your opponent is playing, push through it and try to get to Protos.
Swordsoul Spell Cards and Traps: You only play the Swordsoul spells and traps because they can be banished, providing additional synergy with the Superheavy Samurai engine.
Baiting Hand Traps: Always try to bait out hand traps. If you have Gamma, think carefully about its potential for your turn. You might get lucky and get a free Draco Berserker for extra protection or even Dragite if you have a Water monster in the graveyard.
Using Gamma: It’s generally better to avoid using Gamma on Ash Blossom unless you know they don’t have Maxx "C," but this is just my usual approach.
Extra Deck: Every card in the Extra Deck has a purpose don’t underestimate Chaofeng.

In the replays, you’ll see the deck in various scenarios: setting up the best board, ending some boards through disruption, going second, surviving under Shifter, and more. In one replay, I misjudged the opponent's deck (he was playing Tenpai), and, thrown off by the cosmetics, I declared "Earth" instead of "Fire." xD
