Notes & Combos

Welcome to my write-up for the KOTI event. I thought I would be playing something new, given that it's an event with multiple Types being allowed, as opposed to just 2 like 3F.

Unfortunately, Konami forgot about the part when you make Beast and Beast-Warrior playable, so it's Lyrilusc again.

TLZ, specifically; Tri-Lyri-Zoodiac, a fancy abbrevation for "slapping together the best of each of the 3 Types" (and then there is Beast, I guess).

The current iteration of TLZ is before the Contact "C" plague that once again hit an event where Lyrilusc was one of the best decks (the first was XF2; Konami just refuses to do things right, I swear), assolving 3 functions:

  • Lyrilusc serving as the main set-up for stall and OTK (each when the other isn't optimal or possible), but suffering from requiring specific hand setups.
  • Zoodiac for board protection, chip damage and Quick-pop abuse, but suffering from low fuel
  • Tri Brigade for extensions, Small World, backup, end board control or improvisation, but suffering from bricking (mostly due to no Nervall)

This deck is meta because, well, with the only exceptions of Fire Kings' godhands, Beetroopers drawing too much stuff off Maxx C, and Rept-pile winning the coinflip, a deck who can cover every corner of Yu-Gi-Oh efficiency without worrying about Ash, Veiler, Droll (yes, it's a Spellcaster) or Nibiru, tends to be a little strong, don't you think?

Wincon changes depending on turn order:

  • Going first: Ensemblue + Aurora
  • Going second: Black + Aurora

As you can notice, being untargetable and buying turns while also disabling OTKs and bouncing every SS you can, does a lot of damage.

My list, which is notably for being a slightly more broke version of an optimal one, lacking SoveSimorgh and AW DDL, as well as Bird Sanctuary, is best understood when explaining each card:

  • (Each Lyrilusc is divided into 3 groups, colour-coded: 2 Summoners, (Special) 2 Summoned, and Green acting as the Joker for both)

  • Brown is still at 2 and the Summoned who adds other Lyris, depending on hand. Nobody knows why it's still at 2 despite TB not being a meta for a while, but it is what is

  • Blue is the Summoner who only works when there is a both a WB monster on your field and another L1 to summon from your hand: still the main extender (read: OTK enabler) in spite of all the bricking she causes because of that. Also contributes to material stacking for Aurora

  • Green is the Joker, with an effect that activates when SS'd that SSs another Lyri, from hand or GY, and being able to SS herself, even if the opp has no monster, much like Fenrir. Has the small issue of needing Bird Call or Blue if your bird isn't empty

  • Yellow is the Summoner for the Lyri in the GY, and the main target for Black's search, for either the current turn or preparing for the next. Also adds 200 to Aurora

  • Grey is the Summoned who adds Call (or Sanctuary, if you play it) and doubles as a material to loop with the various Xyz, and to reattach to Aurora, every turn

  • Maxx C is somehow fine, but Nervall isn't. Oh well, free draw

  • Kerass is at 1 and helps with GY setups, with the discard-to-SS eff, as well as the TB Extra cheat to either Eagle or Shuraig.

  • Kitt allows you to mill another copy of Fraktall when milled or sent to GY anyhow, and the TB cheat

  • Ram is the one Zoodiac with Imperm protection for your Drident, and 2000 DEF to protect her

  • Whip is at 1 and allows to add more material, ATK, and contribute to Drident

  • Fraktall, despite at 2, is the best TB of the deck, milling targets for Yellow, even unbricking her, or setting up TB's cheat, including himself.

  • PerfSimorgh serves as Small World garnet, but is also a good extender for Links if you draw it

  • HFD facilitates OTK and is somehow allowed in low power events like these

  • One for One can kickstart any Lyri without the need of drawing both them and the Summoner, and it also sets TBs up

  • Bird Call is at 1, mostly because... it does everything

  • Small World can fix hands even with the small minus, and is even better with SoveSimorgh. Use the API Optimizer to learn the bridges.

  • Foolish is a nice extra to help with Lyris or TB

  • Stand-Off converts a TB or Lyri into a TB of a different type and the penalty doesn't exist.

  • Called can ruin both Maxx C and opponent GY's effs. But mostly Maxx C

  • Imperm is not only good but also drastically reduces the chances of getting OTK'd and allows comebacks

  • Black both searches extenders and allows Mikanko-style OTKs with the help of Aurora, since you can boost the opponent instead of Aurora

  • Aurora is the main star of the deck, attacking 1 time and getting 200 ATK per each material

  • Ensemblue's bounce isn't OPT, and, even if removed with Gadarla, can recover 1 of the mats used to summoned, being the best going first option

  • Purple bounces backrow and boosts Aurora's ATK for the OTK

  • Boar, without Zeus, serves mostly to round up damage for the OTK, as it's otherwise an extra material

  • Drident is the main Zoodiac goal, summonable off single ones, popping 1 card each turn, to gain time or prevent the opponent from playing

  • Tiger, when not used as material, can redistribute Zoo mats for Drident

  • Chaka is 90% fodder material and 10% desperate swinger for lethal

  • Ferrijit acts both as an extender and as a Link to climb from, to refresh hands. Since the summoned's eff is negated, it won't work on Lyri, but it will work splendidly on Zoos

  • Eagle is both a solid going first option off the TB cheat and a OTK, and a mighty beatstick to wrap things up, or starting them

  • Shura is an incredible going second finisher, as well as a backplan for when he gets gotten rid of
