Z-ARC engine is good additional disruption and protection. Usually shotgun it in draw phase, incase they go for a search spell right of the bat.
If they don't ash the trap GY effect, you can setup Crystal wing and Brave-eyes. Then all 0 attack monster effects get automatically negated rendering ash and other handtraps useless.
Going 2nd you can easily break most boards if you open 1-2 counter traps. Just set 5 and play smartly into their board. Setup early Rex to turn off their monster effects. Ferret flames also soloes so many decks.
