Notes & Combos

I reached Master I for the first time this season (Rookie - Platinum with an outdated Lyrilusc TB deck), and I haven't played MD or kept up with the TCG/OCG since Season 1, so take what I say here with a grain of salt.

Ideally, the Maxx "C" minigame wouldn't exist in this game. It's not very skill-testing, but it is impactful. With the latter in mind, I figured it made sense to stay at 40 cards to maximize my chances of winning it, despite the many bricks the deck has (including combinations of cards that result in one or more of them essentially being a wasted spot in hand). However, I think going over 40 cards with this deck is totally valid, and most likely better if you are confident in your ability to pilot it and how well positioned your non-engine is into the meta. I mostly shotgunned it going 2nd - because of Diabellstar, Kashtira monsters, and TTT - despite hearing/reading everywhere that it's scrubby or at least worse in bo1 vs. an unknown deck on average.

In my experience, Droll was mostly counterproductive in terms of the Maxx "C" minigame. When I successfully resolve one of those cards, I'd obviously rather draw into other disruption instead. Being under the effect of Droll myself was not even that bad, but having to spend my own copy of Droll in hand to "win" the Maxx "C" minigame when my opponent resolves it often felt like too high a price to pay, especially when having to play through additional disruption and giving my opponent an extra card. Also, the card was just not that great into most of the decks I faced in my climb.

Nibiru, TTT, and Imperm were all great. Nibiru was strong enough to make up for it being useless in some matchups. TTT and Imperm were great going 1st or 2nd. TTT was usually playable, and it was one of the most interesting cards in the deck to me personally. Imperm clutched a few grindy games where both sides disrupted each other heavily, and the extra S/T negation effect came up. The biggest downsides of TTT and Imperm were that they didn't work as normal summons and couldn't be placed by Wedju Temple.

Kuriphoton was just ok. It wasn't the brickiest card, and it wasn't the strongest card (most of the time), and you often draw it essentially for with Photon Lord.

This isn't my ideal list, but I have no UR CP to experiment with. I'd like to try out 3rd Diabellstar, 4-5 Kashtira card package, and Ghost Ogre surprisingly (mostly for Tenpai and Blue Eyes), instead of Kuriphoton and some hand traps.
