Notes & Combos
thanks to the armored xyz engine, virtual world is a reasonable pick for the xyz event! yay.
combo routing is pretty awkward, i won't lie. since you can only make plays with monsters of the same level, you'll need to get chuche and nyan in the GY to avoid having leftover pieces on the board.
in fact, if you play perfectly, you'll have no bodies in the GY (because they'll be xyz material) unless you discarded a VW monster for qing / xuanwu. don't be surprised if you can't add anything back to hand with jiji's end phase effect.
the fundamental combo of this deck is to make torpedo and then detach its materials to activate its effect. doing so lets laolao and xuanwu get value while also probing your opponent's disruption.
an intelligent opponent won't negate torpedo, but you can at least see if they have a response. remember that even if torpedo is negated, you can still detach since doing so is a cost.
things get really bad if you open with the armored xyz trap. the best you can manage is chuche + 2 xyz monsters, but you'll usually only get 1 xyz monster and a leftover body. painful.
but if things go right, the most common board is chuche, lancer with the axyz trap in the GY, any of the rank 3 negates, and a rank 6. this is enough to bully most meta deck opening hands out of the game.
gossip + lars is the safest choice since it blocks nibiru. cicada is also fine if you want to be a bit greedier -- nibiru isn't that common because the most popular decks are purrely and labrynth. if your opponent won the coin flip and chose you to go first, make totem bird instead to block their inevitable board breakers.
anyway, some flex spots for those lacking UR extra deck cards:
-
cicada could be replaced with another rank 3 xyz. ashura king is unironically a reasonable replacement, but you will have to reroute your combo lines to summon it.
-
M7, lars, 2nd zeus, and ty-phon could be replaced with the utopia beyond + gaia package, dragulas the vampiric dragon, or even photon strike bounzer. dragulas is unironically good here since all the extra deck monsters you'll encounter can be flipped face-down.
-
that said, i strongly recommend playing the second zeus in here. it won't come up often, but when it does, it will be decisive. i also strongly recommend playing the ty-phon, since it's one of two consistent outs you have to kashtira ariseheart (the other is gamma).
