Notes & Combos
Before I took a hiatus, I used to play Luna Kaiju. I still do, but I used to, too. Most of the deck's extra deck was already XYZ so it isn't too big of a jump for the festival, outside of losing some of the more useful maindeck monsters (Orochi, Bigfoot, and maybe Fairy Tail Luna). I'm running a Sekka's Light variant since that's what I'm more familiar with, and Trade-In is less value generating without Danger Bigfoot or Gizmek Orochi.
- This style of deck aims to go second. My bread and butter combo is still usually: break their board where I can with Kaijus/Pankratops/Sauge (you can chain Pank or Ecclesia to Sauge's summon so you waste less resources) -> get 2 lv 8s on my side of the field -> Dingirsu send something annoying to GY -> Pain Gainer pop low defense monsters (including any Kaijus I may have given the opponent) -> Seven Sins punch for 4k-ish hopefully during battle phase -> 4 mat Zeus control on their follow up turn -> hopefully finish off their LP on turn 4.
- Draglubion -> Numeron Dragon probably needs no explanation if they have an empty board or un-threatening XYZ monsters to attack into. Photon Lord is moreso for combo protection if I'm able to put 2 Rank 8s on field, or when going first and I feel I cannot pass on an empty board.
- Use the Galaxy Package for alternate options for board breaking if trying to conserve Zeus or Zeus has already been used.
- Lancelot is a direct attacker to get Zeus on field where attacking might otherwise be impractical.
- Zombie Vampire is an extender if close to being able to achieve lethal or a second Rank 8.
- Sanaphond is for matches against grave-centric decks. That seems unlikely with the prevalence of Exosisters, so I think it's the most cuttable.
- Big Eye is silly fun for if Smoke Mosquito and Pankratops both end up on field. Feel free to cut.
On the subject of Smoke Mosquito, I am running it to help win the mirror match or other blind second decks like Numeron or Lyrilusc since it allows me to comfortably live through turn 2 when forced to go first. It can still serve a similar purpose to Astral Kuriboh going second, you just have to waste your normal summon on it. With Fairy Tail Luna banned/less popular, that seems like less of an issue.
I have yet to run into another going second deck, so my concern may be unfounded. Feel free to use Astral Kuriboh instead, and consider running Crooked Cook for stall if that's your kind of thing.
